In Sissi’s Footsteps in the Imperial City

On Saturday, December 5, 2026, we will depart from Szeged in the early morning from the parking lot of the Plaza for a truly special Advent day in Austria’s magnificent capital, Vienna. On this day, we will follow in the footsteps of Empress Elisabeth, better known as Sissi, while discovering the most beautiful and famous sights of imperial Vienna. In the morning, we will visit Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Austrian emperors. One of Austria’s best-known landmarks, the palace is a magnificent masterpiece of Baroque architecture. We will admire the splendid imperial apartments and elegant state rooms, followed by a stroll through the beautifully designed French-style gardens behind the palace. We will then travel by coach towards the historic city center, where our walking tour will introduce us to some of the most important reminders of Vienna’s imperial past. Along the way, we will see the magnificent Vienna State Opera and visit the Imperial Crypt, the final resting place of the Habsburgs, where, among others, Maria Theresa, Emperor Franz Joseph, and his beloved wife, Sissi, were laid to rest. During our walk, we will admire the monumental St. Stephen’s Cathedral, better known as the Stephansdom, as well as the Hofburg, the impressive former imperial residence. The afternoon will be devoted entirely to the magic of Advent. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Vienna’s famous Christmas markets, where festive lights, Christmas melodies, the aroma of mulled wine, and charming wooden stalls evoke the most wonderful time of the year. The romantic streets and festive decorations of the illuminated city center will provide a fitting conclusion to our Viennese adventure. In the evening, we will bid farewell to Vienna, dressed in its beautiful Advent lights, and begin our journey home. Arrival in Szeged is expected late in the evening.
